salida colorado wedding photographer
Picture this – Nearly nine yes, NINE years ago, I was graduating college at Auburn University. The day itself is a bit of a blur (since I was the one getting married in two days at that time) but that was the last time I saw my dear friend DJ. Friends since our freshman year, neither of us knew what exciting things our futures held. Who could have foretold that we’d wind up moving all around before both moving to Colorado within a year of one another? Or that we’d see each other again, weeks shy of 9 years later for his engagement session with Alli?
Both of them being in the Air Force, Alli & DJ were introduced through a mutual friend. DJ said he immediately wanted to know about her extremely cute friend and once they started dating they said,”We just knew.” In March, DJ popped the question at the zoo. I was so excited when I got his message in my photography inbox, “Big changes coming up in my life very soon!”
The two of them made the trek up from the Springs & we had absolutely breathtaking weather for their mountain engagement session. Spring time mountain weather is always tricky for engagement photography, so we were extremely fortunate. Stopping in multiple places as we headed up Squaw Pass from Evergreen toward Mount Evans, we had clouds & light rain followed by warm sunshine & a beautiful sunset.
My friend & partner in crime when our schedules align, Savannah of Savannah Chandler Photography, came up to photograph & help. We were all cracking up as the well-packed snow (or so we thought) gave way and would randomly swallow poor Alli in her boots at the first stop. It was really sweet when DJ held Alli’s jacket over her head to protect her hair from rain. 🙂
To this photographer’s delight… and also unsurprisingly, these two have incredibly natural chemistry and infectious smiles! They snuggled close to keep each other warm as the sun set over the Rocky Mountains & the temperature cooled.
Congrats to DJ & Alli! I can’t wait until your wedding at Deer Creek Valley Ranch next year!
