When I first met up with Alex & Justin at Arvada Tavern, we had one of those meetings where none of us realized almost 3 hours had passed as we chatted about our lives & their upcoming Deer Creek Valley Ranch Wedding. Love it when that happens! They met many years ago as camp counselors in Colorado. Justin was living out of state then, so they remained friends through the years until their paths crossed & the sparks were there. For their engagement session, I knew they wanted to incorporate some kind of water since Justin loves fishing & hunting and it’s something they also enjoy together. We also wanted to incorporate their cutie pup Maya. A Lair O The Bear engagement with Mt Falcon at the end seemed like a perfect combo for them.

I loved stumbling upon this section of Black-eyed Susan wildflowers!
The gray skies & odd funnel shaped clouds looming overhead looked ominous up to this point. Having seen actual tornadoes before, the former southerner in me shuddered at the sight, but I silently reminded myself that these are the Rocky Mountain foothills. Not a likely spot for that kind of weather. Holding my breath, we waited around for a break in the clouds and then this beautiful light came through hitting Bear Creek. I asked Alex & Justin what they thought about getting in. Without a moment’s hesitation, they stripped off their boots. What followed were my absolute favorites.
One of my favorite things to watch with Alex & Justin was the ease & comfortability of their connection. Theirs is the kind of love that comes only when you’ve found your best friend. It was so obvious to me & I wanted to capture that in this session.
Mt Falcon Engagement
The clouds crowded out the last light of the day at the top of Mt Falcon, but made for a beautiful dramatic sky for the last bit of their session.
