Derek & Collette met me along I70 for a multi-stop Evergreen & Loveland Pass Engagement session back in June near the summer solstice! Although taking photos is not in Derek’s list of favorite activities, you’d never know it by the images. We all enjoyed the time outside & the beautiful scenery.
When I first met up with Collette to hear about her & Derek’s fall Beaver Creek Chapel wedding, we were in a bit of a rush. I had a sitter fall through last minute (for the first time ever). We scrambled to find a time to meet in her full day of vendor meetings. We landed on eating a quick lunch together & talked through my style & packages. One of the moments that stood out to me most was when I asked Collette when she knew Derek was “the one.” I could tell she wasn’t expecting that question. She stopped, smiled and thought for a moment. Then she answered “right away” with a nostalgic look in her face as if her mind was replaying their first encounter. Both out celebrating a friend’s birthday at happy hour, Derek approached her & their relationship took off from there. She said through their ups & downs, she always knew he was the one.
Fast forward a few months to us meeting up for their engagement session. Collette knew they wanted to capture how lush & green the Colorado late snow made everything. Knowing the weather can be so variable in October in the mountains, I also thought we should aim for some mountain views too. So a traveling engagement session it was! We began in Three Sisters park in Evergreen and then continued onto Loveland pass.

The traffic situation in Colorado in the summer is pretty tricky. We joke that there are two seasons on Colorado roads – winter & construction. Obviously most repair happens during the summer months, so imagine my slight panic when we hit a bottle neck on I 70 before our exit. Thankfully we made it just in time for this gorgeous light & got to watch a beautiful sunset on one of the longest days of the year!
